she followed the moon back to herself

Amanda Lovelace considered she was burnt out, that she had written her last piece of poetry, that she felt she had gone through the fire of personal exploration until 2023, when she felt tempted to do something she had never done before; take on the challenged issued in National Poetry Week, which required one poem per day for a month to be written.

Why not, she though and became inspired. She often found she was writing more than one poem a day. Following the Moon Back To Herself is the result of that challenge which once again takes a walk through her life; the ‘she and they’ are her, discovering that being different, thinking alternatively, being a poet who grasps the personal with raw intensity is perfectly OK.

Illustrated in shades of Pink with delightful artwork, a series of fairies often filling the pages creating a divide between subject matter, the words are prosaic, captivating and resonating.

Feminism laced with celestial magic begins the collection captivating the eternal woman always desiring to be somewhat other than is; an already perfect creation.

Each verse in the story concludes with a very accepting line, which shows a quirky sense of humour making piece after piece relatable – ‘that’s just how it goes sometimes’ is one such line after a piece on trusting.

She Followed The Moon Back To Herself is a very contemporary, thoroughly enjoyable walk through the world of ‘woman’. Any woman who is on a journey of discovery, of change, of wondering, should read this story, enjoy the quirky, realism of the pieces, and through the medium of poetry accept that it really is alright to be YOU.

The final piece concludes with……..’you must remember that you have never been so lost that you could not find yourself’… signed your future self.

    So perfectly true.

  • De-Twat Your Life

    De-Twat Your Life

Carolyn Hodbey is a woman who has, after facing a black, pointless, utterly distressing time in her life, picked herself up and realised the only way forward, to be able to help herself, was to simply face up to facts and begin again.

She did and that has eventually lead onto a what is a series of books on helping yourself to create and lead a life that is full of SELF without feeling guilty; to accepting that this is the life you were always meant to lead and growing into the you that was always meant to be; creating a brave new future and a brave new you on the way along your life journey.

Her bitter experience taught her that it was time to finally sit down and work out exactly what was wrong with her life in the before disaster struck period and then the rebuild of a similar life to what she had, before it come crashing down around her, in spectacular fashion.

The end result is accepting that being SELFISH in your life as woman is OK. She has written down the many lessons she learned, often several times, into a workbook that can be easily used by anyone who feels there is something missing in their lives, but is not too sure what.

Although De-Twat Your Life is part of series it can also be used as a standalone, as Hodbey sketches out her personal experience throughout the pages, to ensure that there is continuity and relevance to the various stages of self-discovery.

Set out in four stages, the work looks at Self-Seeking, Self-Expression, Self-Love and Self-Fulfilment; all areas women traditionally struggle to accept in their lives as they have, from small children, consciously or subconsciously been taught to not be selfish, to always accept, to find a way towards peaceful acceptance, to place themselves second in line, when the reality is for many, this leaves a void that needs filling in their lives.

Not a journey for the faint hearted De-Twat Your Life calls for honesty, as the workbook is completed so that when you finally arrive at the destination as the newly confident you, you can celebrate knowing that the future is going to be one of fulfilment.

  • Pause and Sleep

    Pause and Sleep

Released in early January 2020 the Love Help series, or Love Your Self is a charming and very practical series of four little pocket-sized books, each filled to the last word with 50 instant fixes for four of the main issues that often cause serious energy depletion in the busy world of today.

The first two of these, in no specific order, as each book can be used as a reference as or when required are:

PAUSE: something we all need to do more often, but how to retrain the brain to accept that Pause will create far more benefits than simply rushing ahead, regardless. Kim Davies a mindfulness practitioner for more than 20 years, offers what she considers fifty tried and true ways in which to review the world through the practice of simply Pausing. She looks at the massive health benefits Pausing can bring into your life by relearning how to take pleasure from the small things, feeling calmer, being clearer in thought and a having a far greater resilience when things do inevitably go wrong.

SLEEP: Dr Arlene K. Unger a psychologist and wellness coach with more than 30 years’ experience, offers fifty exercises to help achieve a restful night’s sleep. Once again, the book can be read section by section, or simply by dipping into the space or place required. Sleep and the brain function are still classed as a massive learning curve, which makes the contents of this lovely little ‘pocket sized’ book fascinating.

Why do we need to sleep and how much sleep do we really need to function effectively is the almost a never-ending question? How to achieve a better quality of sleep, what tricks to use how to use mindfulness and relaxation exercises that may work for you, may well be hidden within the pages of this guide to waking refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

Calm and Energy will be reviewed under a separate review so look out for them.

  • Self Love: Finding peace and happiness

Self Love: Finding peace and happiness

The advice in Self Love: Finding peace and happiness is of a spiritual nature but captures many points which are relevant. The concept of self-love is not a new one, but viewing each experience we have from the point of view of a new beginning, is akin to a peaceful and thoughtful life. In the Aquarian age we rely more on our own moral compass than to blindly follow the authorities. By doing this we learn from our mistakes and move towards making a positive change.

Akal Pritam suggests that when you are ready to listen and learn, knowledge will be revealed to you. Information travels through light and if we can tap into the power of the Universe we can heal from the past. We all have an inner lion and make choices about how we translate that animal energy and as each generation learns wisdom we must listen to the children of today and learn from their creativity.

The navel is the first part of our existence to develop, therefor is considered as the root of the soul; energy radiates from this point and as we are educated using the brain only, we are missing out on linking into our true power. Knowledge needs true awareness to become powerful, which can and is experienced through exercise such as kundalini yoga.

The following chapters explain why it is necessary to experience self-love with examples of practices from ancient peoples. Forgiveness for yourself first, then broadening out to examine the world using tolerance and service to others is an old Hawaiian belief and one that will resonate on the journey to self-love, peace and happiness.

The positive nature of the practices outlined in the various chapters cannot help but lift and enlighten those who are mindful enough to accept the concepts.

  • 365 Blessings to Heal Myself and the World

365 Blessings to Heal Myself and the World

To bless ones enemies seems like something out of the good book, mostly the Old Testament, but in reality it is something we, as living, breathing, feeling, people on this earth, need and should be able to do, simply as an everyday essential of life.

Perhaps the world would be a far better and greater place; perhaps you as a person would reflect the same and by action and word, make a difference to those around you.

Pierre Pradervand had a job he loved and enjoyed taken from him in cruel and unjust manner, leaving him a far more than devastated. It left him feeling a deep and obsessive resentment towards those he had worked and socialised with, as he slowly began to understand exactly what had happened and who had created this appalling situation.

Meditation, prayer, affirmation and much more was not helping his mental anguish. It was not until a line from The Sermon on the Mount leapt off the page, ‘Bless those who curse you,’ that he could and almost instantaneously saw a way forward, immediately beginning to bless everyone he met, saw or spoke with and continued to do so as he says, ‘day in, day out,’ until it became a natural occurrence.

He also discovered that once again, almost instantaneously he felt as if a great weight had been lifted from him and a feeling of peace and joy began to permeate his life. Good things began to happen and continued to do so, creating in his life an abundance of joy and happiness.

In this work he shares his journey and the blessings he has created for the 365 days of the year. Each of the Blessings come with a note of explanation, with a particularly enjoyable one to commence this refreshingly new way of viewing the world, being Day 2 Blessing Myself, something we often forget to do in or busy lives.  As Pradervand says, ‘it is particularly difficult to really love and bless others from the heart if we do not start with loving ourselves’.

Each day has a different Blessing to commence with, ranging from an Apache Blessing for Newlyweds to a Taxi Drivers Blessing, An Irish Blessing for Times of Sorrow and on Day 247 Seeing the Day with Fresh Eyes. There are far too many to choose from but there is definitely something there for every occasion.

As the book slowly unfolds, the idea of blessings being freely given becomes a very normal consciousness, costs nothing at all and can be carried out at any time, any place and for anyone which will bring rewards that are rich and wonderful.

Pradervand is at pains to point out this is not a trick; it is something that must and needs to come from the heart, to be truly believed. Day 356 is The Last Word on Walk Your Talk which is a beautiful way to conclude what could, can and will be, not just life changing but world changing in its pure simplicity and power.

Enjoy the moment when you realise life really is a case of ‘my heart is covered with honey’ a traditional response from the Moba of North Togo when asked how they are!
