    AN ACCIDENTAL PIRATE

The Possibly True Adventures of Fanny Campbell

Set in pre-revolutionary Rhodes Island, Fanny Campbell has been bought up by her father to be an independent young woman. She can shoot, fish, sail and use a broadsword with gusto. Her father a proud Scot, and previous sword maker made very sure his daughter could defend herself if there ever was the need.

Now orphaned and living on the family farm with her beloved Sarah, Amos and their son………………. she manages to outshine all the local lads, and therefor has been considered by her Aunts to be sadly destined to never marry.

A serious storm blows Will, a British Naval Officer into her world and after a somewhat unusual courtship they decide to marry, only to have Will recalled to his repaired ship and then captured by pirates off the coast of America.

Fanny, never one to ignore a challenge decides to go to sea to try and rescue Will. She disguises herself as a seaman, manages to get a berth on a ship, only to have that ship also captured by the elegant, skilfully captained Bloody Rose, a well-known pirate ship. From this time on her epic adventures really begin as she becomes a very valued crew member of the Bloody Rose.

While reading through old newspapers of the times Brooks Almy came across the fanciful tale of a young heroine, Fanny Campbell, the story of a brave, fearless young woman which inspired An Accidental Pirate.

Slow to begin with An Accidental Pirate is a comfortable read that picks up pace towards the middle of the book and would make a pleasant afternoon read on the couch.

  • All the Stars and Teeth

    All the Stars and Teeth

Magic and its wondrous powers are the drivers in this Fantasy fiction All the Stars and Teeth from Adalyn Grace, a storyline beloved of fantasy fans that leaves the imagination to the luxury of dressing the themes and surrounds as the reader chooses.

While the storyline, like much fantasy, is not new, the way in which Adalyn Grace weaves the tale is captivating and enchanting.  Effectively, Princess Amora Montara is facing the biggest challenge of her life, as she has had to master some of the most dangerous magic in the Kingdom in order to secure her place to the throne.

Facing her final test things go terribly, horribly and dangerously wrong, forcing her to accept the help of Bastian, the captain of what appears to be a Pirate Ship; a strange but gloriously beautiful ship but a ship without a crew.

Bastian and Amora join forces and a rollicking, but treacherous and dangerous journey begins to save not just Amora Montara and the future of her country Visidia, but also Bastion’s land, that of Zudoh.

Kavan is the man causing most of the problems, with a new and powerfully destructive magic. When Amora realises her father the King has not told her everything she needed to know to understand her magic, the magic she needs to master, she and Bastian decide the only way forward for them both, is to take up the challenge to face pure evil.

As the days pass on board the Pirate ship, Amora also begins to realise that life outside the Kingdom of Vasidia holds a strong fascination for her, as does the life of a Pirate. All the Star and Teeth has a little bit of everything; danger, evil, romance, power and monsters woven into the story, which ultimately makes for a fascinating time out in Fantasy land.

  • Princess Swashbuckle

    Princess Swashbuckle

Princess Swashbuckle is a tale or two set on the high seas, all about a frog Princess who so, so, very, very much wanted a life on the ocean waves. But and there is always a but in all good stories about high seas and swashbucklers’ and the like, her Mum and Dad are not too happy about this.

They, of course want her to marry a frog prince and live happily ever after! But she had a real problem with this, as every frog she kisses never, ever turns into a Prince and all of them seemed to live in some very odd places, like bogs, swamps and logs, with one even being a TOAD!

So Princess Swashbuckle thought deeply about this, then decided she had to take a stand once and for all, so she packed up her things and set sail aboard a pirate ship called the Stinky Fish. And of course, that is when her adventures really began, as she and the sad and sorry crew set sail on the high seas, not to pillage and plunder, but to help and aid the many, many friends they make on their journey.

Now you will need to read the rest of the story for yourselves to find out what happens in the end, but as you read each page in the adventure, you must, at all times, have your very own adventures along the way.

This wonderfully light-hearted, rollicking good tale, is one that comes with a wonderful message to children that sometimes you have to do what you know is the right thing, but you should always remain as a kind and thoughtful a person as you can possibly become on your journey through life.

The story from Hollie Hughes is clever, fun and a most enjoyable read, with a hugely entertaining cast of characters created by Deborah Allwright, with her lavish and fun portraits of the motley pirate crew, a wonderful whale doubling as a speed boat and so many more fascinating people and things to discover on every page.

Princess Swashbuckle will become a very firm reading favourite for both children and their parents as they join the crew on the pirate ship Stinky Fish!
