    Our Dreams Will Be Told

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
    (Langston Hughes)

This beautiful verse from Langston Hughes makes the perfect introduction for the latest work from Italian composer Fallen, Our Dreams Will Be Told, as he takes time to reflect on the dreams we all have as we travel through life.

Dreams are a very personal state of being, whether they are sent to us in dream state, or we conjure them up when we are awake, wanting, desiring something so much we dream of this being ours, of happening or somehow materialising in our lives.

But what happens when dreams turn to ashes, dust or simply vanish into the mists of time, to be replaced with something else? This is a time of wonderment that can lead to disillusionment and pain. But if dreams are realised what a wondrous thing that can be.

The eight tracks blend seamlessly in to one as the journey begins with the gentle melodies enticing a place of reflection, of mellow moods and tranquillity; of dreaming of things to be and once where. The soft Let there be more light is a subtle piece that encapsulates the very essence of dreaming; a gentle wafting of thought and ideas still to be formed.

Dove’s Secret Shelter is somewhat intriguing piece as it moves across the boundaries of electronica in a subtle manner, captivating the world of these beautiful, peaceful birds as they sit safely in their shelter, safe from the worries of the world.

Changing the pace to a more up-tempo feeling is Stolen Empathy, Bitter Tears reflecting on dreams gone wrong, sour, leaving behind an aftermath of unpleasant feelings and thoughts. A darker, far more brooding piece which captures the disillusionment well.

As Our Dreams Will Be Told draws to a conclusion a dreamy state being has been induced by the gentle music, the hint of dreams told and yet to be found, of peace, sorrow, joy and comfort. Delightful and relaxing this album shows a gentle aspect of Fallen’s composition skills, as on this work, he enchants, entices and then blends in a form of acceptance to the very nebulous world of dreams.

  • Home Is

    Home Is

“Is it possible for home to be a person and not a place?” (Stephanie Perkins)

Home Is the latest release from Fallen or Lorenzo Bracaloni has been nicely timed, arriving at the end of a year when reflecting on what Home is has been something many have spent their time contemplating.

Home is anywhere you are at any time or so they say, home is place within you that is your deepest energy, a place that makes you feel safe and nurtured. Home is also a place that can be returned to time after time, full of memories, loved ones or simply the things you treasure, that make you feel comforted, content and blessed.  Home is whatever and wherever you are that sooths the soul.

The quote from Stephanie Perkins poses the time old question of what exactly is home, which captured the imagination of acoustic composer Fallen. Translated into a beautiful flow, the work sets about trying to define what it is that makes Home somewhere very special, in a style that is softer, far more gentle than many of his previous works.

Gently drifting the eight track work slowly segues thought he ambient spectrum, delicate in places, sharply jarring, almost haunting in others as the piece Oxygen and Skin reveals. Each of the pieces reflects on the many aspect of Home which are deeply personal.

As a work that floats and drifts, every so often the reminder is there that there is far more depth to Fallen’s compositions than just electronic soundwaves, as he either plays or has utilised Piano, Electric Piano, Organ, Synthesizers, Bass, Acoustic Guitars, Electric Guitars, Voice, Field Recordings and Found Objects to create Home Is.

Home Is a delightfully different work and one that is best to simply allow to waft on the ether, allowing the mind and emotions to take you where they will, to discover just where Home Is.

her name is a whispered lullaby

    “Who is She?
She‘s the city, she‘s the quietness,
She‘s the traffic, she‘s the calmness,
She‘s the chaos, she‘s the purest peace,
She’s the life we’re fighting for.”

This beautiful piece of poetry is well served to introduce the latest release from Lorenzo Bracaloni and man who has, like many overs the past year, spent time in pursuit of the reason why life is the way it is and with these simple words, creates a sense of yin and yang, the pulse of life.

This is reflected on her name is a whispered lullaby, an autobiographic album that sees Bracaloni otherwise known as Fallen, seeking and searching for a place that is his to call home; a spiritual home as well as a physical place where he can simply be; a place of calm, of nurture and tranquillity. This place is a place we all seek.

Each of the seven tracks contains an element of tension representative of modern day life, where everything is fast paced, far from peaceful, cacophonic with an ever decreasing sense of peace and familiarity absent. An insightful track is Shadows Disappear which celebrates a step along the journey, where the seeking is beginning to find a purpose and acceptance of changes that often need to be undertaken, is understood. A sense of calm and peace is very present in relation to the previous tracks.

The intensely beautiful Heaven Can Wait is a revealing composition and perhaps the most elegant of the story that unfolds, as it sooths the senses; flowing with a grace and calmness almost as an extension to the previous song.

As to the angel on the cover: Who is she? Is she you, is she me, is she Fallen. That is the question and one that does indeed ‘represent the life we are all seeking’, whatever that may be.

Her name is a whispered lullaby is a vastly different album to Fallen’s last release Ljos with a slightly more mellow influence gracing the carefully created blend of life, represented through the sound of electronica to create a fascinating perspective on seeking, accepting and beginning to understand a pathway which has been carefully tailored into the final track. Take A Breath (Exit).
